With more people complaining about "bad and violent" online stuff, the ministry has started to check current laws and think if they need a better way to control things. This action comes from worries that the right to say what you want is being used badly to show harmful material, especially on platforms like social media and OTT services. The ministry talked about these issues in its answer to the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

The committee asked if current laws can really handle harmful content online. There are some rules now, but many people want stronger actions against content that could hurt society—like when influencer Ranveer Allahbadia made rude comments. His remarks upset many people, leading to legal cases against him along with calls for tighter controls on digital content. Even after he said sorry, this issue brought back discussions about needing tougher regulations for online materials.

The ministry knows there’s a problem; different legal groups like the Supreme Court and National Commission of Women have shared their concerns too. They are now looking at changing existing laws or perhaps making new ones. Still, some worry that new rules might lead to unwanted censorship. The committee will meet again on February 25; it is expected that the ministry will share detailed ideas for changes in law during this meeting.
